Cookie Time
by Paul DeLuca on December 14, 2007
The kids always enjoy making cookies–at least the decorating and eating part–and this year is no exception. Here are some pics of us making sugar cut out and gingerbread cookies. We also made some spritz cookies, but I didn’t get any pics of those. For me, baking is an opportunity to use some of my favorite cooking tools: our KitchenAid mixer, silicone baking sheets, and a baking stone. More on those later. For now, it’s cookie time! |
Matt, creating his gingerbread man army…”I’m going to rule the world! MWAHAHAHAHA!” |
Ali, cookie artiste… |
When it comes to decorating, it’s all about the frosting, and the sprinkles, and the frosting, and the cinnamon buttons, and the frosting. You can’t go wrong with snowmen with chocolate sprinkle hats, gingerbread men with frosting bow ties and cinnamon buttons, and lighthouses with frosting stripes. Not sure when lighthouses became Christmas cookies; you’ll have to ask RenĂ©e about that one. Can you find the gingerbread Barney? I’ll bet he gets his head bitten off first. |
TEN-HUT! Matt’s assembled gingerbread man army. Ruling the world, however, is probably out of the question when your entire army can be destroyed in five minutes by a hungry kid with a cold glass of milk. Thankfully, a few of them are wearing pants. And only one wounded so far… |
And, of course, a hopeful Harley the Wonderdog; ever-vigilant to clean up any and all cooking mishaps with Hoover-like efficiency.
(Post script: This year we have so far successfully averted the tragedy that will forever be referred to as the Gingerbread Man Massacre of 2006. We came home one evening to find dismembered, decapitated, and otherwise mauled gingerbread men scattered on the counter where they had been left to cool. We each thought the other had eaten the freshly baked cookies only to witness Harley lower his head in shame and retreat to his cage. Future G-men have been spared this fate through rigorous security measures and untiring vigilance.) |

Too funny!! Noah calls Splash vacuum sometimes when we drop stuff on the floor.
Gingerbread men tremble in fear at the sight of Harley!
